The best living room sofas for every budget

The best living room sofas for every budget

Looking for a sofa for the living room is often the last stage of furnishing your space. You have chosen the style and colours of your room and quite often newly decorated it too. So now you need to choose the size and style as well as the colour and fabric of your new central feature for your living room – your sofa. For such an important decision the choice can be quite daunting and then there’s the price and determining the amount of investment you are looking to make. We analyse the deciding factors and look at the best sofas that give you the greatest value for money.

How to choose the best sofa for the living room?

Before the price analysis begins, it is worth looking at other criteria for choosing sofas. The first of these is often style. You need to consider will the style fit the rest of the décor in your home, but most importantly do you love it? Another factor is the number of people the sofa is to accommodate. The obvious question is how many are in your household, but you also need to think about how often you entertain friends and family. How many seats do you really need, and do you require the seating arrangement to be flexible, to suit the situation and guests? The best sofa may not necessarily be the largest, but the most practical.

The next consideration in searching for the ideal sofa is the answer to the question: where will the sofa be located? If it is to stand in the middle of the living room, it is better to choose a sofa with a rounded shape, so it looks great from all angles. If you prefer your seating to be in the corner of your room, then either look at a large corner sofa or a pair of matching 2 or 3-seat sofas, which look great with either a coffee table in between or a stylish floor lamp. If you are planning on placing a sofa underneath a window, then you need to pay careful attention to the height of the back of the sofa ensuring it won’t sit too high.

A retro style sofa is all about the design and makes an eye-catching addition. Often featuring stitching and quilting detailing with wood or metal accents, they are great for making a style statement in your interior – a great example of this being our Kooper range. To keep costs down, you can find some great vintage pieces, such as coffee tables and cabinets from the mid-century period on many auction websites to complete your look. Sometimes with just a small amount of upcycling, they can be re-purposed to look fabulous again.

There are some wonderful modern and classic styles of sofa available on our site, and if you are undecided there are some modern classic pieces which give the perfect compromise, such as the Chesterfield Modern range. This range combines the traditional look of a Chesterfield with a contemporary feel, especially upholstered in velvet. All of our sofas that are available in a choice of upholstery fabrics have no difference in price, meaning you don’t have to worry about liking a more expensive fabric – they are identical costs. So, a lush velvet for example is affordable for all.

Whilst perusing our furniture ranges, it is also worth looking at the dimensions of the sofa for your living room. If your room can accommodate a larger sofa, it will be more cost effective to buy two sofas, instead of a sofa and two armchairs. For just a small amount more you could buy a 2.5 seat sofa instead of a 2-seat, for example. As long as you have checked your measurements this is a great way to cut down the costs and still achieve the quantity of seating required. Alternatively, if your room layout can stretch to a corner sofa, this is also a cost-effective solution compared to multiple pieces of furniture.

On-trend affordable sofas for the living room

Whilst there are many designer sofas on the market retailing for thousands of pounds, we want to be able to offer great design at an affordable price for all. How do we do that? We design and manufacture everything in our own factory in Europe, so by cutting out the middleman there are substantial savings which not only benefit you with financial gain, but also gives us complete control of the furniture and the process, allowing accurate timings and visibility for the customer at all stages.

Often, high fashion sofas that look beautiful, are not as comfortable as most people desire. The sofas at SFL24 are all designed not just to look beautiful but with comfort as a top priority. By combining a modern shape sofa with a strong hardwood frame and high-quality fillings, this ensures comfort at every level. Trends will always come and go but a well-made sofa that offers complete relaxation will always be in vogue. When you want to unwind alone with a book or watch a film with friends, consider what is important. Is it a deep seat, wide armrests, a high back, or all these elements that you require? There is an extensive choice, so prioritise and feel assured you won’t need to compromise because of the price.

If you want a sofa that’s currently on-trend, you can’t go far wrong with the Slender – available in a choice of fabrics and colours, on a wooden frame or metal legs. It is a design that is at the top of all interior designers wish lists, because it fulfils the fashionable criteria, but is timeless too, so ensures it is a design that won’t look out of place in 10 years’ time – a rarity in today’s throwaway culture.

Room size

When deciding on your ideal sofa, it is important to consider the proportions of the room it is going to be located. You may desire a huge sofa, but will that overwhelm the space? You may want a small proportioned sofa, but will that drown in your interior? For a successful sofa choice for your room, you will need to consider these parameters.

When choosing the dimensions of the sofa that you will place in the living room, it is good to immediately think about its place. A sofa with a longer body would work well under the window or by the wall. For a smaller space a shorter one may be a better option, or choose multiple pieces of furniture for arranging in a more challenging area.

If you choose a large sofa, it is worth thinking about accessorising with contrasting colours of cushions or throws. Not only will these add interest, texture, and depth to your interior, but they will also break up any vast expanse of colour, which can sometimes appear too stark. You may find the sleek Scandi inspired Vicenza would be enhanced by a couple of scatter cushions, the simple design of the Linara looks great with a cosy throw and the angular lines of the Opus may be softened with the addition of some well-chosen textiles.

Upholstery of the sofa

Deciding on the upholstery fabric can sometimes be a difficult task. We offer a few hints on how to choose the best sofa upholstery fabric for your needs.

1) Fabric weave - this is important for pet owners. The tighter the weave, the harder it is for your pet to dig its claws into the sofa and for pet hairs to become embedded.

2) Ease of cleaning - an important consideration for parents of small children. The easier it is to clean, the better. The majority of our fabrics can be easily cleaned with a water-based solution, so this shouldn’t prove a problem.

3) Resistance to damage - when a sofa is upholstered with velvet or leather (faux or real), it is easier to notice scratches on it. This can have a positive effect though, as it adds character to the furniture, and as long as the fabric is of good quality, won’t affect the lifespan of the upholstery. All SLF24 fabrics are tested for their excellent abrasion resistance and perform exceptionally well in industry standard rub tests.

A great fabric choice will give you both the practical and aesthetic qualities you are looking for in your home.
